The world’s first quantum microsatellites demonstrate secure communication with multiple ground stations
Schematic diagram of quantum key distribution experiments between quantum microsatellite zinan-1 and ground stations. Credit: Nature (2025). doi:10.1038/s41586-025-08739-z The research team developed the world’s first quantum microsatellite, demonstrating real-time quantum key distribution (QKD) between satellites and multiple compact mobile ground stations. The research led by USTC’s Pan Jianwei, Peng Chengzhi and Liao Shengkai has been published in collaboration with the…

Researchers develop new approaches to assess spatial representativeness of soil moisture stations
Credit: Unsplash/CC0 Public Domain A research team at the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) at the Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed a new framework for globally assessing the spatial representation of soil moisture stations. Their study found that approximately 63% of existing soil moisture observation stations certainly reflect satellite pixel-scale conditions. Published in the IEEE Transactions on Earth Science…

New protocol measures 5G radiation from phones and base stations
Boxplots and jitter plots displaying the distribution of measured total power flux density values (mW/m2) stratified by microenvironment, usage scenario, and area. ᴼ represents the arithmetic mean, the horizontal line represents the median, and the box represents the interquartile range. Credit: Environmental Research (2024). DOI: 10.1016/j.envres.2024.120550 A team of Project GOLIAT researchers has developed and applied a new protocol to…
