Twisted Edison: A nanoscale curled filament produces light waves that rotate as they travel.
The light bulb’s Edison-style filament is twisted on a microscale, similar to the strands Jun Lu holds next to the demonstration. When the length of each twist matches the wavelength of the light emitted by the filament, the light waves rotate as they travel through space.
