Large magma body under the dormant volcanic, amazing scientists

The new Cornel University LED research is an active volcano expelled during the eruption, and has a long belief that it has a large magma body that breaks down over time as the volcano is dormant.
Researchers have used seismic waves to identify the dormant of the magma chamber and the cascade range under the surface of six volcanoes of various sizes. The team discovered that all volcanoes, including dormant volcanoes, have a sustainable and large magma body.
This study, led by Posdoc Researcher Guaning Pan, was published in Nature Geoscience and co -authored by Geoffrey Abers, a professor of geological science.
Given that some of these volcanoes, such as Lake Lake in Oregon, have not been active for thousands of years, the results are surprising.
“Regardless of the frequency of the eruption, you can see a large magma under a lot of volcanoes,” Bread said. “These magma bodies seem to be not only active, but also under volcanoes for a lifetime.”
The fact that more volcanoes maintain a magma body is an important consideration on how researchers monitor and predict future volcanic activities. The US Geological Survey has expanded and expanded the volcano monitoring network in the cascade range and other places as part of the early warning system of the national volcano, with the aim of detecting the signal of the eruption as soon as possible. I am upgrading.

“We thought that if we found a large amount of magma, we thought it would increase the possibility of an eruption,” Pan said.
The result suggests that the eruption does not completely discharge the magma chamber, indicating that it eliminates excessive amounts and pressure instead. The chamber can gradually solve the crust, so it can be slowly expanded and replenished over time.
“With a better understanding of where the magma is, I was able to do a good job rather than optimizing monitoring with a target,” said Aberth, “sparse or intensive. He said that there were so many volcanoes.
The plan is to expand the magma monitoring system and see if the discovery of cascade is converted to other places, including Alaska.
